Zero Waste Swaps for an easy beginning

Less Trash in your life.. and more space for the important things

Trash is a common topic in my life. It surrounds me every day in some way. In the supermarket, at home, even in my room. Its just everywhere and not very nice, to be honest.

There are three things particularly bad about trash, it fills your space with tension (like the urge to always take care of something so unnecessary like trash), shows the strange human "one-use" objects behaviour and is simply crappy for the whole planet.

Plastic in the oceans, trash on landfills. Not very nice and not very sustainable way of living. Former humans on this planet also lived without such a huge amount of trash, and they still lived. Like nothing changed. But there is one thing humans of todays society don't really do. Take a step back and look differently, at the whole trash situation. I think we (desperately) need to reduce trash, even in the smallest ways possible.

This post is exactly for those people. A very basic guide on how to get started with something that called "Zero Trash". A movement that connects people, makes them pay attention to food again (because food is the main trash source, in my case) and more conscious consumers.

So, lets start

Change those things
  1. menstrual cup instead of tampons

  2. cloth bags instead of plastic bags

  3. biodegradable bags (out of corn) instead of plastic bags for fruit and legumes

  4. or nets for bigger fruit

  5. Bamboo toothbrush instead of plastic toothbrush

  6. high quality glass water bottles instead of plastic water bottles

  7. Keep-Cup instead of To-Go coffee cups

  8. Kitchen towels instead of Zewa, paper cloths (you have them anyway, so why not just use them)

  9. washable make-up mod cloths instead of normal wipes

  10. hair soap and cider instead of shampoo out of plastic bottles

Change those buying habits
  1. buy more loose groceries (fruit, legumes etc. without wrapping)

  2. if possible, fill your dry food into containers to bring along with you (in health food stores and other stores sometimes possible)

  3. if shopping at amazon, ask them to send the packages in paper-boxes

  4. don't take plastic straws, instead, buy a high quality one (out of metal), or just ask for no straw in the restaurants

  5. also ask for no tissue at the restaurant (you mostly don't need them anyways)

  6. Try to buy products in bigger containers like glass of bigger boxes

Change those consumption habits
  1. try to reuse all the paper you can (if you printed something false out, use it for groceries)

  2. Remove all your description services on paper (like commercial stuff)

  3. check your bank status online (I first had to log myself into my account for this to work)

  4. Just buy your absolute favorite magazines or watch for an digital alternative

  5. check you fridge for leftover food regularly, those leftovers often make great meals

  6. wrap gifts for friends and family in nice magazine pages of newspaper and decorate with items like flowers, little tags etc., its also a lot more personal

Make something yourself
  1. Make your own toothpaste (recipe here)

  2. Just make food yourself, baking and cooking are wonderful tasks , so try to make those dame good brownies yourself or be very proud of your hand baked bread with self-made strawberry jam

You, see isn´t that hard right? So next time you go into the supermarket consider what to change or what to buy for less thrash build-up.

Anyway, I hope these tipps are helpful for all the people out there, trying to produce less trash and a lighter life (because who really needs trash?).

Wishing you folks a wonderful day,

See you soon,

Lena <3
